Bach flower therapy was developed in 1917 by the English physician and bacteriologist Dr. Edward Bach. When he became seriously ill that year, he discovered that he intuitively knew what medicinal properties plants possessed and what ailments they could cure. He developed 38 remedies from wild flowers and plants.
Bach believed that the healing power of the plant was absorbed by the dew on the flowers. Therefore, he collected that dew for his remedies. Because demand exceeded supply, he developed a method to produce medicinal ‘dew’ himself. This method is still used to this day in Dr. Edward Bach Center in Oxfordshire to make the so-called ‘mother essences’.
Treatment
Bach remedies are part of a holistic treatment. This means that the whole person is treated, and not just the symptoms of the condition. When choosing a remedy, several aspects are taken into account, including:
- the mental and emotional state of the person to be treated
- his habits
- his nature
- his personality
- attitude
- typical behaviour
Bach flower remedies are suitable for everyone. So also for babies and children and even for animals. You can use Bach remedies on their own, but certainly also in combination with other forms of treatment.
Research
What is so special, is that to this day it is not clear why the Bach remedies work so well. This is because research techniques are not yet sufficient to isolate and measure the medicinal properties. If one were to isolate the remedies chemically, one would only find spring water and alcohol. Only very recently has it been possible to demonstrate that there is a clear energy field around a Bach remedy.
